Fourth Day

Yesterday was day four of our Thirty in Thirty.  I received another prompt from Ms. Rulli's class that challenged me.  It was a prompt about a mirror.  After thinking about it I thought maybe I could make it a magic mirror.  One of those "who's the fairest of them all" mirrors.  I didn't want to make it that simple though.  So I drew on the Antiques Roadshow for inspiration.  I wanted them to find the mirror but other than being old, know nothing about it. They would sell it for a good price and only later find out about its magical powers  I think I achieved this, or at least I made the reader think about what happened.  Here is the prompt I started with.  Lets see how you would write the story.

Story Prompt
You are looking through your attic trying to find the Halloween bin to put away the decorations, but while looking you find this really old mirror. It looks interesting so you go up to it and look at the bronze detailing closely. All of a sudden you see a flash of light that comes from the mirror. Curious and scared you run out of the attic and down to your mom in the kitchen, and ask her if she knew about the mirror, but she doesn’t. Then, you hear a crash come from the attic….

  1. November 4th Story Comments

What did you like about the story?

We liked how they thought it was worth a lot, but found out it was much more. We liked the dialogue of the story. We liked the twist at the end that it was a wishing mirror.
We liked the suspense of the story. We liked it for the dialogue. We liked the cliffhanger. We liked how it was a mystery. We liked how there could definitely be a prequel/sequel. We liked how he took the comment from the golden key story and added an ending to this story that wasn’t abrupt.

    What didn’t you like?

We wished you added a little more detail and make it a little longer. What did the man do with the mirror? We wanted to know they knew it was a wishing mirror.
Some people didn’t like the cliffhanger ending.
Did the story go in the direction you were expecting?

    Other Comments:

We really liked the story in general and what you did with it. We liked how you used your imagination.
We liked how the mirror was worth a lot, but they didn’t know that until the end.
