As some of you may have noticed I am having some difficulties with my web site. The talesbydan.com is taking you to my blog instead. That means you can't get to my video links as I intended. We will be working on this, but in the meantime here are the links to the videos that I have out there now. Thanks for your patience.
The Story of my Birth
I tell this story every year to show the students where you can gather inspiration. This story also has many parts that play off the same theme ,so it shows them that with imagination you can change a basic story. It is a story from Philip Gulley's Front Porch Tales. https://www.amazon.com/Front-Porch-Tales-Hearted-Laughter/dp/0061252301

Jimmy gets a Dog
I tell this story every year to show the students where you can gather inspiration. Like the story above, I used a book for the basic story and then expanded it from there. The book I used was Light in the Attic by Shel Silverstein and the story was Abigail and the Pony. https://smile.amazon.com/dp/0060256737?tag=amz-mkt-chr-us-20&ascsubtag=1ba00-01000-org00-def00-other-smile-us000-pcomp-feature-pcomp-wm-3-wm-8&ref=aa_pcomp
I tell the Abigail story as written and then change the characters and throw in a twist at the end.

Goosie the Ghost Hunter
This story doesn't come from a book. I wrote this story to show how you can use the people around you, that you know, as characters. Goosie was a real person. She was my great aunt and used to spend a week every summer with her up in Nebraska. The situation is pure fiction.

Pranked
The basis for this story comes from my brother-in-law who grew up in Idaho and had a kid sister who liked to tag along behind him when they were young. I took the basic story that he told me and added a few things that made it more fun to tell. It goes to show that you can gather inspiration from many different places including your own family. Tales that are told around the table or on a road-trip can get you started, so listen to those stories that you may have heard a million times and think about how you might be able to use the characters, setting or plot in a story of your own.
