Fifth Day

Yesterday I wrote a story from the following Extended Prompt.

Extended Prompt

Do any of you have a big fear? Well, I did when I was a kid. I was afraid… of  ________, and let me tell you, it was really scary when I had to enter the museum of ______.

My first thought was to write this story about something that most people didn't think of as scary.  I wanted the reader to say really?  and ask why are you afraid of that.   Fear of something is not always logical or rational.  My idea was to examine this and not write a story that simply falls into the expected plot line.  In fact, most of my stories follow this recipe. I take the road less traveled, so to speak.  I don't think that a reader will follow the story to the conclusion if it follows the apparent path.  If you start out with something unexpected and later weave it together so that the reader can see your point of view I think it is more powerful.  I am by no means an expert at this but it is what I strive for.  Let me know what you think.
