Eleventh Day

The prompt today was an extended narrative prompt:

Ya, we had arguments, me and my friends. But not so bad that they would tell half of the school. This time it was different. My friends and I all were close. My best friend and I were so close that she had the password of my Instagram and she was mostly on my account.  That night I was texting one of my main bfs, Danielle. Things were getting triggered.

This was most difficult prompt so far. It takes place in present day and concerns issues face by a teenage girl. It uses modern terminology and vernacular consistent with the main character. Since I am not a teenage girl or a familiar with the way they speak I did what any writer would do, I asked for help. I emailed her teacher to get clarification on some of the words used and the situation she was talking about. I also told her that I couldn't write the story from the girl's perspective and would need to adjust a few things. She agreed and I decided to write a compare and contrast story. One where the main character was asking her grandmother for help and her grandmother was able to relate a similar story to the main character, only from a different time period. I also added terminology and acronyms from grandmas time. I think I was able to address the problem and still do justice to the prompt. What do you think?

Tenth Day

Today's prompt was an extended prompt:

Maggie at North Shore Middle school has huge stage fright she tries out for a small part in the musical Beauty and The Beast but instead gets the main role of Belle. What will she do…

It was easy to write this story as anyone who has ever stood in front of a crowd has at one time or another experienced stage fright. It is how you handle it that makes the story so that's the way wrote it. Even though the main character was a girl I was able to write it from her perspective since stage fright isn't gender specific. In the end she was able to overcome her fears and carry on. I liked the story since it struck a cord close to home. What do you think?

Ninth Day

Today's Prompt was a picture with no caption:

Image result for pictures that tell a story
As you can see it is a picture of a boy standing on a bull.  My initial thought was that this has to take a lot of time to create the kind of trust from both characters to pull this off.   The bull would need to be small and the boy would need to show great dedication to be able to train it.  I started from this idea and wrote it in a way where the two characters taught each other.  It followed a pretty predictable course and ended as you might expect.  I think it was a good story to show cooperation.  What do you think?

Eighth Day

The writing prompt for today is:

I never truly liked reading until the strangest thing happened. My mom, sister and I had to go to the library to get a book for my little sister for her book report. I was scanning the books, just because, when I saw this one book. It had gold around the ridges and the pages were as fine as silk. I opened the book and I started flipping through the pages when all of a sudden I look up, and I’m no longer in the library.

As I looked at this prompt I thought how everyone that reads should hope to get lost in the pages of a book. To be able to imagine and see the people and setting in their minds eye is a great experience. But the more I looked at it I thought it might be fun to literally get lost in the pages of the book. So I went from that perspective and wrote the story. As some of the comments noted, I had a hard time making it clear what was happening. It might have been better to set the scene better with more explanation. Anyway, I liked they premise and I think after a few revisions I think it would be a good story. What do you think?
