Characters

Characters

Here are the characters of our story.  What first comes to mind when you look at them?  How old are they?  Are they from the present or a long time ago?  How can you tell?  What are their names?

Here are some things to consider:

They might be best friends

They might be related.  (Brother's or Cousin's)

Are you sure the one on the left is a boy?

Are they making plans or playing a game?

Once you have asked yourself these questions try to connect them with the house.  How are they going to fit into the story?

Here are some things to consider:

They are cousin's named Paul and Jason who lived in 1933.  The same year the house was built.  The house belongs to Jason's mother, Paul's aunt.  The house is on the same block where Jason and Paul's grandfather lives.  The house in this picture in his house.

Now you can ask yourself more questions.  Where is Jason's father?  Looking at the house in this picture can you tell if they are they rich or poor?

As you keep answering questions more pop up that need an answer until you finally know quiet a lot about these characters.   All the answers that you come up with may be part of the story or not, but it gives you a better idea of who they are.  You need to know your characters before you place them in a story.  When I write a story the characters I use I have known for a long time.  I know who they are and how they think so when  I place them in different situations I know how they should react.  Sometimes they surprise me.  You can develop your characters as you write or beforehand, it doesn't matter.  Sometimes I will just write and let them develop as we go along.

Your characters need to be the best that you can make them, so put the time in and create some great ones.

Next we will talk about "the Plot" of your story.  You have a great setting and characters, but now they need to have an adventure.
